The Altaire Manuals: International Publisher and Author Resource are the result of Altaire Productions’ extreme difficulty in locating all possible post-production international markets for distribution, marketing, reviews, and other avenues to increase publicity, exposure, and sales for the company’s first published work, The Antigone Poems. After extensive research, it was clear that complete and compiled international marketing and sales resources for publishers and independent authors did not exist. Beginning with a few pages of notes in 2010, the company has researched, updated and curated the information collated through the years into the over 4,000 pages, and 29 separate directories to be published.
Altaire Productions & Publications
Altaire Productions & Publications first opened in 1977 as Studio Altaire in Toronto, as a public art studio for the works of artist Terrence Tasker. Tasker and Marie Slaight moved to Montreal and opened Studio Altaire in 1981. Studio Altaire featured theatre companies, stand-up comedy, late-night jazz, acting workshops, art exhibits and more. In 2008, Marie Slaight established Altaire Productions & Publications in Sydney, Australia, as an arts production company for independent artists. Altaire has co-produced such films as Bury The Hatchet (USA) and Raymond Carver’s Whoever Was Using This Bed (Australia) as well as jazz recordings and other works. The first publication from Altaire was The Antigone Poems, a book of poetry and art created by the original Altaire founders in the 1970s. They are presently publishing the 29 directories of The Altaire Manuals: International Publisher and Author Resource.
